I was born and raised in Peterborough, Ontario. I completed a Bachelor of Science degree in accounting and went on to earn a Masters of Science Degree also in accounting at Clarkson University in Potsdam NY. After my graduation I taught graduate and undergraduate courses in accounting at the same university. I was an Associate Professor for three years at Clarkson.

From there I owned with two partners a private commercial business in my home town for five years. I then went to Fisher Gauge Limited, a Canadian owned family business here in Peterborough in 1978. I spent twenty-seven years in a variety of functions, supervisor, budget specialist, financial analysis, and Finance Manager for over twenty years. I was involved with payroll, cost accounting, the budget process, preparing Statement of Operations, Balance Sheets and cash flow statements. Also, I developed the consolidating of financial statements for a branch operation and a solely owned subsidiary both in foreign countries. With Fisher Gauge I managed ten employees, including supervisors and specialists as well as clerical staff. I was responsible for all accounting functions at our branch and subsidiary as well. Budgeting and risk management were an integral part of my position as well.

In the winter of 2004 I left Fisher Gauge and ran the finance department of the oldest and largest Mechanical Contracting firm in eastern Ontario. There I computerized the accounting process, developed an accounting routine for the staff and established factory overhead rates to better understand the costs of projects and where to set selling prices. I enjoy training accounting staff to better understand the meaning of accurate financial statements.
